Uveitis

Uveitis is a name that is given to patients with inflammation or swelling of the iris, ciliary body, retina, optic nerve, or choroid. It is classified by the area affected, it cause, and whether it is chronic or acute.

Causes of uveitis are infections and underlying diseases. This condition usually affects patients between 20 and 50 years of age.

Signs and Symptoms
blurred vision
light sensitivity
redness around the iris
pain
floaters
small pupil

Diagnosis
A dilated fundus exam will be used to help diagnose uveitis. Blood wrok may also be performed to rule out other possible conditions.

Treatment
Treatment for uveitis will vary from patient to patient based upon the severity of the problem and other factors. Topical drops and/or oral medications can be prescribed to reduce inflammation.
